Regular visits to the Dental Hygienist, together with good oral hygiene routine, are very important in maintaining healthy teeth, gums and a fresh breath.
The Dental Hygienist, who has been specially trained, will thoroughly scale and polish your teeth, removing harmful plaque and tartar which can only be professionally removed, as well as removing surface staining on your teeth.
A very important role of the hygienist is Oral Hygiene Instruction. The Dental Hygienist will demonstrate the best way to brush and clean in between your teeth using interdental brushes or floss to remove plaque and tartar which constantly forms on your teeth. Plaque and tartar can also cause gum inflammation (swelling, bleeding and tenderness) and if not removed the bacteria can irritate and cause damage to the gums around the teeth.
Regular visits to the Hygienist will keep your gums healthy, preventing gum disease and dental decay.
When you come for your check-up with your dentist, he will refer you to the hygienist. Alternatively you can call the surgery to book an appointment on 020 8550 2777.
