Crowns

Dental Crown in Ilford and Essex

Crowns are usually used to cover heavily filled or broken teeth to improve the strength or appearance of the tooth. They are also typically used to protect what is left of a tooth following root canal treatment.

Crowns can be made from a variety of different materials including gold, porcelain, and pressed ceramic such as E-max crowns which are completely metal free. They are made to match the exact colour, texture and translucency of your natural teeth.

The procedure involves the preparation of the tooth to the ideal shape for the crown. Once the tooth is shaped, an impression or mould of the prepared tooth will be made and together with the appropriate shade will be sent to a dental technician for the crown to be manufactured. In the interim, a temporary crown is made and fitted on to the prepared tooth. At the next appointment the temporary crown is removed and if the dentist is happy with the fit and appearance of the new crown, it will be fixed in place with a special dental cement or adhesive.
